Behaviour-change work grounded in accountability, insight and safeguarding

The Mindful Foundation is currently developing a trauma-informed, accountability-led Perpetrator Programme designed to address the underlying drivers of domestic abuse and harmful behaviour.
This work is grounded in evidence showing that abusive behaviour is shaped by learned beliefs, trauma responses, emotional dysregulation and entitlement-based thinking. The programme centres accountability, requiring participants to recognise harm, take responsibility for their behaviour, and commit to sustained change.
Our approach
The programme combines clear psychoeducation with practical behaviour-change tools, supporting participants to:
- Understand patterns of abuse, coercive control and harm
- Challenge beliefs around power, gender and entitlement
- Develop emotional regulation and stress-management skills
- Take responsibility for behaviour and its impact
- Build safer alternatives to harmful responses
Survivor safety is central throughout. Any delivery will operate alongside established survivor support services, with clear safeguarding, referral and escalation pathways in place.
Next steps
The Perpetrator Programme will be piloted in Liverpool, delivered in partnership with local domestic abuse organisations. This pilot will focus on safe, accountable delivery within an integrated, survivor-informed local response.
