Supporting emotional wellbeing for children and staff

In May 2024, The Mindful Foundation visited Khaya Centre to deliver age-appropriate wellbeing sessions for both children and adults within the community.
Working with children
During the visit, we worked with around 60 children, delivering sessions focused on emotional processing and understanding the brain. Using accessible language and practical activities, children explored how emotions show up in the body, how the brain responds to stress, and simple ways to recognise and manage big feelings.
Alongside this, and in partnership with The Just Living Foundation, we were able to provide winter jackets for approximately 100 children, offering much needed warmth during the colder months.

Supporting adults and staff wellbeing
At the request of the Khaya Centre team, we also delivered wellness sessions for around 30 adults, including educators and staff. These sessions focused on yoga, breathwork and meditation, offering practical tools to reduce stress, regulate the nervous system and support emotional balance.
For many of the students and staff, this was a rare opportunity to pause, reset and focus on their own wellbeing while working in demanding frontline roles.
